Throughout his ministry, Jesus showed a special concern for little children and taught his disciples not to hinder children from coming to him (Mark 10:14). To Jesus, children were to be cherished as a blessing from the Lord and as a picture of every Christian’s childlike dependence on God the Father. Children are an important part of our ministry at North Point for this very reason.
We absolutely love children and want to show them the nurturing care, affection and intentionality that they deserve as human beings made in the image of God. We also want to “bring them to Jesus” as we teach them age-appropriate lessons from the Bible, sing songs centered on God’s word and play games and do crafts that encourage them to grow in a real faith in Jesus Christ.
Registering Your Child
We welcome your child to our sunday school classes! New families will need to fill out a registration card that includes the child’s name, parent’s name and cell phone number, and any allergy information. The child will then receive a sticker with their name and registration number on it. The parent will receive an identical sticker with each child’s registration number. Parents must show the childcare worker the registration sticker in order to release the child from class. This is how we make sure children are only released to their parents or guardian.
Small Children Class: Ages 6 months – 4 years old
This class meets upstairs in the left-side classroom. Children in this age group may be checked in as early as 10:15 am. Even though these children are young, we still intentionally plan their class time around a bible lesson from a Word-centered curriculum. Your child will also be prayed over. Volunteer teachers incorporate play time, music, and bible reading into the class. Stories from the bible integrate a theme about God’s love and His plan to save sinners. We use puppets, coloring, and acting to help the children understand the story. Snacks are provided (usually animal crackers, raisins, etc) but please let us know of any allergies or special dietary needs your child might have so that we can accommodate you. Please bring diapers and a change of clothes for babies and toddlers. Questions? Email our children’s deacon here.
Elementary Class: Kindergarten – 5th Grade
This class meets upstairs in the classroom on the right. Upon being checked in (see “Registering Your Child”) these students will remain with their parents and sit for the first part of the worship service. We believe it’s vital to a child’s developing understanding of the Christian faith to see and hear the church interacting, praying, and worshipping together. And we don’t mind when kids get noisy! A child giggling or scooting a chair—rather than being a distraction—is a reminder for us to praise the Lord who has blessed our family with so many children.
Upon the completion of the “Pastoral Prayer,” elementary-aged children will be released by the pastor to the back of the sanctuary where their teachers will be waiting to receive them and take them to their classroom. Each week our teachers prepare thoughtful games and activities, sing songs and hymns, make crafts and most importantly read and discuss lessons from the bible. Our curriculum works through successive portions of scripture each week to build on the lessons from the last and speaks to the overarching plan of God to save sinners. Every week your Child will hear the Gospel and be prayed for. Snacks are provided (usually animal crackers, goldfish, etc) but please let us know of any allergies or special dietary needs your child might have so that we might accommodate you. Questions? Email our children’s deacon here.
We want to respect the time of our volunteers. When the service is ended we ask that you promptly go to your child’s classroom with your registration sticker to check your child out (they will not be dismissed otherwise), after which you’re all welcome to join us for coffee and snacks in the sanctuary.
We Will Keep Your Child Safe
We hold your child’s safety, as well as their spiritual development, in the highest regard. To ensure that your child is receiving good biblical teaching as well as loving guidance from their teacher we have taken the following precautions:
- All volunteers who care for and teach the children are members of North Point Church, have passed a background check, interviewed with our children’s deacon, and received training.
- We maintain a safe ratio of children to teachers.
- If a child needs to use the restroom, we always have two adults escort them so that they are never alone with one adult.
- Only women volunteers change diapers and use standard childcare sanitary measures when doing so.
- All toys and surfaces are disinfected after class.
- Our check-in system ensures that children are only released to the person who checked them into the service.
Ministering to Parents
At North Point we are not only concerned with the few brief moments of interaction we have with your children on Sunday morning, but with their training in the faith at home from Monday through Saturday. We understand that parenting is a daunting task and many parents might not know exactly what it looks like to bring up a child “in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).
That’s why we want to come alongside you as a church to help you make disciples of your children at home. Each week we will inform you of what your children learned in class and give you resources, questions and activities you can use at home to keep the conversation going. We also have many faithful, experienced moms and dads in our church who would love to meet with you and encourage you on your way. If you would like more resources or need help with parenting please email our children’s deacon here.
